There is this German dude. He dropped out of school after some difficult years. He didn’t know what to do with his future, and since his parents threatened to kick him out if he didn’t get a job, he decided to make an apprenticeship as a car mechanic. During this apprenticeship, he started to find some fun in learning new stuff. Over the years, he became pretty good at his job. But sadly, shortly after finishing his apprenticeship, he needed to quit his job due to health issues. So, he started studying Motorsport Engineering. He managed to get a pretty good Bachelor’s degree and worked a couple of years as a Systems Engineer and Lead Consultant in the area of building simulation models for Hardware-in-the-Loop systems in the automotive industry.

In 2022, this guy got bored with Germany and decided to move to Thailand with his girlfriend. There, he learned the Thai language at a language school. He continued his work as an engineer to earn some money, but he always had the feeling that there was more for him. Something more fullfilling. So, in 2023, this guy decided to quit his job and make yet another U-turn in his career. He started to learn Web Development by himself. By the end of 2023, he gathered enough knowledge to land a job in a foreign country without any prior experience in this area of work.

For this job, he needed to move from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in the North of Thailand. In this job, he felt more alive than ever and finally found his passion in creating new things with code. But of course, this dude is way more than just his academic career. He also likes to read about self-development and productivity. He likes to express his thoughts and feelings. He doesn’t like the idea behind the strong man that needs to be tough all the time. He likes to show his inner world to the outside, because he thinks that only if you let other people see your inner self, you can build real relationships that are worthwhile and valuable.

Maybe, you wonder who this guy is and of course you are right in assuming that this guy is me. I am Jan, 29 year old and live in Thailand. I created this blog to share my journey from being a school dropout with a challenging youth to becoming an engineer and later a self-taught developer. It’s also a space where I discuss my life in Thailand and the differences between here and Germany. Additionally, I share personal insights, such as my emotions and the ongoing journey to become the best version of myself every day.
